Join a third-generation Faroese fisherman on a private morning catch, then sit down to a locally prepared seafood lunch — langoustine, Atlantic cod and hand-foraged seaweed — at a harbourside home in Vágur. The rarest table in the North Atlantic.
What to expect
The morning begins at 07:00 on the family's wooden fishing vessel in Vágur harbour, hauling lines in the fjord as mist lifts off the mountains. Back ashore by mid-morning, the catch is cleaned and handed to the kitchen. Lunch is served at a long wooden table overlooking the water: whole grilled cod, langoustine bisque, fermented lamb on the side, and cloudberry skyr for dessert. The fisherman's stories — of winter storms, whale drives and island life — are worth the journey alone.
Good to know
Depart Vágur harbour at 07:00; experience concludes by 13:00, leaving comfortable time before all-aboard. Must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance — this is arranged personally, not an off-the-shelf product. Guests with shellfish allergies should advise the operator at booking. Dress warmly for the boat portion.
