Cruise the sheltered skerries and island fringes of Tunulliarfik and neighbouring fjords in search of humpback whales, minke whales, white-tailed eagles, and vast Arctic seabird colonies on a private, naturalist-led vessel.
What to expect
Departing from the Qassiarsuk landing, your skipper-naturalist heads south toward the outer skerries and island bird stacks, scanning for the tell-tale blow of humpback whales that feed on the rich krill blooms here each summer. Guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, and occasionally white-tailed eagles nest in the cliff faces you drift below. If whales are sighted, the engine is cut and you drift quietly as they surface repeatedly. The guide provides a running commentary on Arctic ecology, sea-ice dynamics, and the nutrient chain that makes this corner of South Greenland so productive.
Good to know
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed; the naturalist guide will always re-route to maximise your chances. Binoculars recommended (some are provided). Warm, windproof layers essential. A 4-hour trip sits comfortably within most Brattahlid port windows; confirm all-aboard time before booking.
