Glide by private boat along the limestone coastline of Ortigia, slipping through sea caves, swimming in crystalline grottos, and viewing the ancient city from the water — the perspective no walking tour can give you.
What to expect
Departing from the Ortigia waterfront, you round the ancient city walls by sea before entering a series of luminous limestone caves that glow turquoise from below. The captain anchors in a private cove for snorkelling over Posidonia meadows teeming with Mediterranean fish. A chilled Sicilian aperitivo — local wine, arancini, and cured meats — is served on deck as you drift back past the golden facades of Ortigia in the afternoon light. The combination of archaeology, swimming, and slow Sicilian living is utterly irresistible.
Good to know
Departures are from the Ortigia harbour, approximately EUR 10–12 by taxi from the cruise pier. Confirm all-aboard time carefully — a 4-hour morning departure is advisable to leave buffer time. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a light cover-up; the limestone caves can have low clearance so flat footwear is recommended.
