Surrender to the centuries-old Ottoman art of the hammam — steaming marble slabs, expert kese scrub, foam massage, and the deep relaxation of a ritual unchanged for 500 years. A profoundly restorative and culturally immersive finale to any port day.
What to expect
Arrive at a beautifully restored Ottoman-era bathhouse in Alanya's old quarter, where a marble-domed steam room has been warming locals since the Seljuk period. Change into a traditional pestemal (linen wrap) and recline on the göbektaşı — the heated central marble slab — as steam slowly unknots every muscle. A skilled tellak (bath attendant) works a kese mitt across your skin, removing weeks of dead cells before enveloping you in a mountain of jasmine-scented soap foam for a deeply therapeutic massage. Finish with a glass of apple tea in the cooling room, completely renewed. It is one of the most civilised hours you can spend in Turkey.
Good to know
A full luxury hammam ritual takes approximately 60–90 minutes; easily combined with a morning city walk or castle visit. Book in advance to secure a private time slot — popular with cruise port visitors. Avoid eating heavily before the steam. The bathhouse is within easy walking distance or a short taxi from the port.
