Stand before the world's oldest surviving photograph inside the museum dedicated to Nicéphore Niépce, the Chalon-born inventor of photography. A profoundly moving cultural pilgrimage for any lover of art or history.
What to expect
The journey begins with Niépce's 1827 heliograph — the world's first permanent photograph, a grainy rooftop view that changed civilisation — displayed with the reverence it deserves. Galleries trace photography's evolution from camera obscura to digital age, with rare Leica prototypes, Polaroid oddities, and contemporary fine-art photography interspersed throughout. The setting, overlooking the Saône quayside, is as photogenic as the collection itself. Allow 90 minutes to do it full justice.
