Trek a wild limestone promontory above the Tyrrhenian Sea with a local naturalist guide — Capo Figari rewards with rare endemic flora, nesting griffon vultures, and 360° views stretching to Corsica and the Maddalena islands.
What to expect
The trailhead begins just south of town, winding through fragrant macchia scrubland of rosemary and rock rose as the path climbs steeply above turquoise coves. At the summit semaphore station (rated 4.8 on Tripadvisor), the panorama is staggering: La Maddalena, Caprera, and on clear days the silhouette of Corsica. Your guide identifies griffon vultures riding thermals just metres overhead — one of very few colonies left in Sardinia. The descent follows a different path past hidden rock-carved Nuragic ruins before finishing with a cold Ichnusa beer in town.
Good to know
Total hiking time approximately 2.5–3 hours; rated 'easy to moderate.' Wear sturdy trainers or hiking shoes — sandals are not safe on the limestone. Departs directly from port; no transfer needed. Best in the morning before midday heat. Bring 1.5L water minimum.
