Strap on snowshoes and trek deep into Antarctica's pristine interior snowfields, where virtually no tourist sets foot. Sweeping 360-degree panoramas of frozen bays, glacial seracs, and distant mountain ranges reward every step of this extraordinary polar hike.
What to expect
Booted and snow-shoed on the ship's expedition deck, you're Zodiac-transferred to a stable landing site before ascending a gradual snowfield under guidance from a polar mountaineer. The view from the ridge — a sweeping canvas of pack ice, open water, and distant peaks — is genuinely breathtaking. Your guide explains the glacier's movement, its crevasse systems, and the science of living ice. The return descent is often a glissade straight back to the Zodiac.
Good to know
Moderate fitness required; no technical mountaineering experience needed. All snowshoe and pole equipment is provided on board. Layers are essential — Antarctic wind chill can be severe even on clear days.
