Trek across Kangikitsok's sweeping tundra plateau with a certified Arctic naturalist, discovering musk ox tracks, nesting seabirds, and a riot of wildflowers clinging to the permafrost. One of Greenland's most underrated sensory experiences.
What to expect
The hike begins at the shoreline and ascends gently onto open tundra where panoramic fjord views open immediately. Your naturalist identifies Arctic flora — purple saxifrage, Arctic cotton grass, crowberries — and reads animal signs in the lichen. With luck you'll observe musk ox at a respectful distance, and the guide will explain their Ice Age lineage. The descent follows a different route, often passing glacial erratics and ancient Inuit tent rings.
Good to know
Moderate fitness required; trails are uneven but non-technical. Ankle-support hiking boots and windproof layers are essential. Duration 2.5–3 hours. Pre-book at least two weeks ahead in peak July–August season.
