After dark, board a Zodiac and head into inky Amazon tributaries to spotlight black caiman by night — then cut the engines and witness the river's breathtaking bioluminescent plankton bloom. A truly once-in-a-lifetime sensory experience.
What to expect
As darkness falls, your Zodiac slips into a narrow black-water creek, torchlight sweeping the bank for the red glow of caiman eyes. Your naturalist may carefully lift a juvenile caiman for guests to observe before releasing it unharmed. Engines off, you drift into open water — stir the surface and millions of bioluminescent dinoflagellates ignite in electric blue. The silence of the Amazon night, broken only by howler monkeys and frogs, is overwhelming. Hot coca tea and a debrief follow on deck.
Good to know
Wear long sleeves, dark colours, and bring insect repellent (DEET-based recommended). Zodiac boarding requires reasonable mobility. Book as a day-guest experience through Delfín Cruises' reservations team. Night departures are typically 19:30; confirm all-aboard alignment with your ship.
