Journey into Fiji's Highland rainforest to a traditional Fijian village, receive a ceremonial kava welcome from the chief, then hike to a secluded waterfall — an experience that reveals the soul of Melanesian culture far beyond the shoreline.
What to expect
A private 4WD departs Suva wharf into the cloud-kissed Colo-i-Suva hills. On arrival, remove shoes and present sevusevu (kava root) — the chief then formally receives your group in the bure (meeting house) with song and ceremony. Following kava, a village elder leads a 45-minute rainforest trail to a tiered waterfall pool ideal for swimming. Return to Suva via a scenic coastal road with time at the Suva Municipal Market if desired.
Good to know
Suva is a tender-free deep-water berth — easy embarkation. Dress respectfully (shoulders and knees covered) for the village segment; swimwear underneath is ideal for the waterfall. Confirm all-aboard time carefully: allow 5 hours for the full experience. Book at least 6 weeks ahead for private vehicle and village coordination.
