Journey to Tonga's most sacred ancient monuments — the enigmatic Ha'amonga 'a Maui trilithon (Tonga's Stonehenge) and the terraced Royal Langi tombs — with a local expert guide who unlocks millennia of Polynesian dynastic history.
What to expect
Your guide collects you dockside and drives east across Tongatapu, pausing at Captain Cook's Landing Place before reaching the awe-inspiring Ha'amonga 'a Maui — three massive coral-stone slabs erected around 1200 AD that still align with solstice sunrises. You then move on to the Royal Langi, grass-covered stepped pyramids that served as tombs for Tonga's sacred Tu'i Tonga kings, their scale and mystery rivalling anything in the Pacific. The return leg skirts the east coast, offering sweeping lagoon views before the guide drops you back at the wharf with time to spare.
