Descend into 'Anahulu Cave, Tonga's most dramatic limestone cavern filled with stalactites and a crystal freshwater pool, then trace the island's sacred east coast — a true bucket-list combination of geology, mythology, and Polynesian culture.
What to expect
After collecting you at the dock, your guide heads east past tapa-cloth villages and tropical plantations to 'Anahulu Cave, a cathedral-like labyrinth of chambers adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. You swim in the serene underground freshwater pool — the temperature is perfect and the reflections otherworldly. Emerging back into the Pacific sunshine, the tour continues along the east coast, visiting Captain Cook's Landing and the Ha'amonga trilithon before returning to Nuku'alofa. The entire arc of Tongan civilisation — geological, mythological, and royal — unfolds in a single half-day.
Good to know
Approximately 3 hours. Bring a swimsuit and a small dry bag for valuables. The cave steps are uneven; closed-toe water shoes are strongly advised. Book directly and request a morning departure to avoid the midday heat in the cave.
