Slip beneath the surface at one of the Pacific's most haunting and historically charged dive sites — where the US military bulldozed millions of dollars' worth of Jeeps, bulldozers, and aircraft into the sea in 1945. Today it's a spectacular artificial reef teeming with marine life.
What to expect
Don your gear at the purpose-built dive centre and wade straight off the beach into the shallows, where the rusting silhouettes of Jeeps and cranes emerge from the coral-encrusted depths. Hawksbill turtles glide between old truck cabs; lionfish fan their spines atop bulldozer blades. If your itinerary permits, continue to the nearby SS President Coolidge — a 200-metre luxury liner turned troopship, now arguably the most dramatic recreational wreck dive in the world. Snorkellers can enjoy the shallower sections richly colonised by reef fish.
Good to know
Certified divers must present their certification card. The SS Coolidge requires an additional permit (approx. USD 20, arranged by the operator). This site is a 10-minute drive from Champagne Bay pier — confirm precise all-aboard times before booking as the Coolidge dive runs long. Book directly with Allan Power well ahead of your cruise date.
