Settle onto two of the Aegean's most hauntingly beautiful pebble coves — Agia Anna, the filming location of Luc Besson's The Big Blue, and neighbouring Mouros — backed by cliffs so sheer they cast cathedral shadows. Crystal water in every shade of blue, near-total solitude, utter luxury of place.
What to expect
The road to Agia Anna ends at a clifftop car park; a short, vertiginous staircase delivers you to a pebble beach of impossible beauty — the cliff of Hozoviotissa soaring immediately overhead. The water is so clear you can count the pebbles at five metres depth. Mouros, a five-minute walk further, is even quieter, with a seasonal cantina for cold drinks and simple grilled fish. Spend the afternoon swimming, snorkelling or simply watching the light change on the cliff face.
Good to know
Pre-arrange a private taxi from Katapola port (20–25 min drive); the road is narrow and thrilling — not for the faint-hearted but perfectly safe. Bring your own snorkelling gear for the best experience. A modest beach taverna operates in season at Agia Anna. Leave well before all-aboard to allow for the return drive.
