Join the island's resident warden for an intimate guided walk to Lundy's famous puffin colonies on the western cliffs. This is one of England's most extraordinary seabird spectacles — a true bucket-list wildlife encounter on a car-free Atlantic island.
What to expect
Board the MS Oldenburg from Bideford or Ilfracombe and arrive at the island's Landing Beach. The warden leads a small group along the dramatic western clifftop path to the burrow fields where puffins nest from April to July. Expect nose-to-beak encounters at remarkably close range as puffins wheel overhead and pop in and out of their cliff burrows. The route passes sheer granite sea stacks and offers panoramic Bristol Channel views that are nothing short of cinematic.
Good to know
Guided walks are arranged on boat days, often at short notice — confirm with the island office upon arrival. Sailing season runs April to October; puffins are present April–July, peaking in May/June. All-aboard time is strict; allow yourself buffer time to return to the landing beach. Wear layers and non-slip footwear.
