The Marisco Tavern is the only pub in the world with no road leading to it — a convivial granite inn at the heart of Lundy serving freshly landed seafood, local ales and the island's own Lundy Lager. Lunch here is as much a cultural rite of passage as it is a meal.
What to expect
Settle into a window seat with views down to the landing beach and the open Bristol Channel beyond. The menu leans into the island's maritime larder — expect fresh crab, mussels and local fish alongside hearty pub classics. The Landmark Trust runs the tavern with an emphasis on quality and provenance; the kitchen knows its audience. Wash it down with a pint of Lundy Lager (brewed to mark the island's heritage) and perhaps a wedge of local cheese. The convivial atmosphere — day-trippers, island staff and the occasional sailing crew all sharing tables — is utterly unlike anywhere else.
Good to know
The Tavern gets busy in the midday window; arrive early or late (post-1:30pm) to avoid the queue for tables. It operates on boat days when the MS Oldenburg is in — no advance reservation is possible for day visitors, so simply walk in. Cash and cards accepted. Pair lunch with a browse of the island shop next door for Lundy stamps (a philatelic rarity) and locally produced goods.
