Duck inside Ireland's only community planetarium — a charming, unexpectedly world-class observatory right in Schull village — for a private dome show under a projected universe of 9,000 stars.
What to expect
Set within Schull Community College, the planetarium's copper-domed theatre seats a small audience under a full-hemisphere projection system that charts the night sky above West Cork in extraordinary detail. A live presenter narrates the show, identifying constellations, planets, and the mythology woven through them — all relevant to the maritime heritage of this very coast, where sailors once steered by those same stars past Fastnet Rock. Shows run approximately 45 minutes and are followed by time to explore the telescope. It is intimate, intelligent, and genuinely wonderful.
Good to know
Shows run on a scheduled basis and must be pre-booked, especially for groups. Check schullplanetarium.ie for current show times on your port day. The planetarium is a 5-min walk from Schull pier through the village. Pair with a post-show lunch at one of Schull's excellent harbourfront restaurants.
