Descend into The Grotto — a collapsed sea cave with a subterranean pool of impossible turquoise — then follow white cobblestone shores to Indian Head Cove's cliff-jumping ledges. One of Canada's most iconic natural experiences.
What to expect
The trail from the Cyprus Lake trailhead winds through ancient mixed forest before the land falls away dramatically to reveal The Grotto — a cavernous sea cave where Georgian Bay has broken through the limestone to create a luminous teal pool. Swim in the icy, crystalline water or simply stand at the edge, awed by the light play. Continue along the shoreline to Indian Head Cove, where smooth white cobbles meet sky-blue water and brave swimmers launch themselves from low limestone ledges into the deep. The Bruce Peninsula's dramatic Niagara Escarpment edge provides the backdrop throughout.
Good to know
Timed-entry reservations are MANDATORY and sell out weeks in advance — book at reservation.pc.gc.ca the moment your itinerary is confirmed. The trailhead is a short drive or taxi from Tobermory harbour; allow 2–3 hours minimum. Wear hiking shoes; the limestone can be slippery when wet.
