Paddle the luminous turquoise waters of Eigg's 'Singing Sands' beach — named for the haunting squeak of the quartz grains underfoot — and explore sea caves and basalt columns inaccessible by land. One of Scotland's most magical coastal experiences.
What to expect
Launching from the north shore, you glide beneath towering basalt columns and into cathedral-like sea caves where light filters in electric blues and greens. The guide pauses at the Singing Sands so you can step ashore and hear the extraordinary sound the beach makes underfoot. Seals often haul out on nearby rocks, and grey herons stalk the shallows. Wetsuits and all equipment are provided; no prior kayaking experience is needed.
Good to know
Sessions are weather and tide dependent — early morning slots offer the calmest seas. Book via Eigg Adventures through the island's visitor information page (isleofeigg.org). Tender ashore at Galmisdale, then a short transfer or cycle to the launch point. Allow 3.5 hours including kit-up; suits moderate port calls.
