Step inside the 18th-century Callwood Rum Distillery — one of the oldest operating pot-still distilleries in the Caribbean — then weave through local markets and heritage rum bars on a private foodie journey through Tortola's creole soul.
What to expect
The tour begins at the Callwood Distillery in Cane Garden Bay, a working copper pot-still operation unchanged in its fundamentals since the 1700s. Your guide walks you through the fermentation vats of locally grown sugarcane and molasses, then pours a straight measure of aged rum directly from the barrel — raw, unfiltered, and extraordinary. The route continues through Cane Garden Bay village to sample local craft beers, saltfish johnnycakes, and roti from trusted family kitchens. The return journey traces the ridge road above Road Town for sweeping views over the harbour.
Good to know
Callwood is a working distillery, not a tourist attraction, so private access is the only way to experience it properly. Wear comfortable walking shoes; cobblestones can be slippery. Total duration approximately 3.5–4 hours. Book directly with Stoutt's well in advance, particularly on busy port days.
