Descend on the RMS Rhone — a 310-ft Royal Mail Ship sunk in an 1867 hurricane and rated among the Top 10 wreck dives in the world. An underwater cathedral of encrusted iron, swarming with marine life, accessible only by boat from Tortola.
What to expect
The powerboat ride south along Tortola's coast to Salt Island takes roughly 30 minutes, passing Norman Island and Peter Island en route. At the wreck site, your divemaster briefs the group on the Rhone's dramatic sinking story before descending to the stern section (80 ft) and the shallower bow (30 ft) — each teeming with glassy sweepers, French angelfish, and hawksbill turtles threading through the encrusted rigging. The wreck's enormous propeller and intact porthole windows are highlights no wreck diver forgets. A surface interval on the boat allows time to debrief, snack, and surface-snorkel the shallower sections.
Good to know
Open Water certification required; Advanced recommended for the deeper stern section. Bring your certification card. Total excursion is approximately 4–5 hours. The RMS Rhone is a protected BVI National Park — no touching or collecting. Book directly and confirm all-aboard clearance well ahead of your cruise date.
