Plunge into the dramatic Saguenay Fjord — Canada's only true fjord — on a small-group Zodiac for an up-close encounter with resident beluga whales and the sheer 300-metre basalt cliffs that frame one of North America's most spectacular waterways.
What to expect
Launch from Tadoussac, where the cold, nutrient-rich Saguenay meets the St. Lawrence — the world's most reliable location to observe beluga whales in the wild. Your naturalist guide decodes the belugas' social behaviours as calves surface alongside adults. The Zodiac then powers into the fjord itself, past Cap Trinité's soaring cliff face crowned with a centuries-old statue of the Virgin Mary. Wildlife sightings commonly include minke whales, harbour seals, and bald eagles.
Good to know
Tadoussac is a classic St. Lawrence port call; book directly with AML well in advance as Zodiac spots sell out in summer/fall. Dress in warm, waterproof layers regardless of air temperature — fjord spray is cold. Allow 2.5–3 hours on the water.
