Hand-Dived Breiðafjörður Scallop Tasting & Marine Discovery

Breiðafjörður Bay is world-famous for its hand-dived scallops — among the finest in the North Atlantic. Join a small-group marine tasting experience guided by a local fisher-naturalist, sampling impossibly fresh scallops, sea urchin, and seaweed straight from the bay.

What to expect

Aboard a small vessel departing from Flatey's harbour, your guide-fisher hauls a dredge net brimming with Breiðafjörður scallops, sea urchins, and cockles — then cracks them open immediately on deck. You taste the ocean raw, with a squeeze of lemon and perhaps a dram of Icelandic aquavit, the bay's glassy surface and the island's church spire framing a perfect Nordic tableau. The guide explains the bay's marine biology, the hand-diving tradition, and why Breiðafjörður scallops are coveted by Reykjavík's top chefs.
