Brazil's most important maritime museum houses over 1,000 historic vessels — dugout canoes, tall-ship models, artisan fishing craft — in a beautifully restored colonial waterfront complex. A private guided visit turns it into a richly layered story of Brazil's soul on the sea.
What to expect
Enter through the grand colonial gateway and follow your curator through chronologically arranged pavilions, from hand-carved indigenous canoes to the golden age of Atlantic trade schooners. A dedicated room showcases the artisan boatbuilding tradition still alive in Santa Catarina, with craftsmen sometimes at work on the premises. The rooftop terrace offers a stunning view over Babitonga Bay, marrying the museum's story with the living waterscape beyond. Allow 90 minutes to do it full justice.
Good to know
Located in the historic center, a 10-minute walk from the pier. Open Tuesday–Sunday from 9 am. Pre-arrange the private curator at least 72 hours ahead via the museum's official website.
