Cross a swaying rope bridge 30 metres above the churning Atlantic to a tiny sea-stack island — one of the most exhilarating short walks in the British Isles, set within a National Trust nature reserve of jaw-dropping coastal scenery.
What to expect
The coastal path to the bridge weaves along dramatic basalt cliffs alive with seabirds — guillemots, razorbills, fulmars — before delivering you to the bridge itself. The crossing is a rush of Atlantic wind and vertiginous ocean views. On the island, look north to Scotland on clear days. The return walk back along the headland is equally breathtaking and far less crowded than the outward path. Combine with a stop at nearby Ballintoy Harbour for a quiet coffee.
