Slip into the turquoise shallows off Iboih Beach for a guided snorkel through one of Indonesia's richest protected reef systems, then step out onto the sand of Rubiah Island — a marine sanctuary closed to mass tourism. Hawksbill turtles, clownfish, and fields of staghorn coral are the backdrop.
What to expect
A short banca boat ride from Iboih jetty deposits you at the edge of Rubiah Sea Garden, where the reef begins in just 1–2 metres of water — ideal for snorkellers of all experience levels. Visibility regularly exceeds 20 metres; the coral biodiversity is extraordinary, with over 1,000 recorded fish species in the surrounding marine park. After snorkelling, the boat anchors off Rubiah's white-sand beach for a private swim and a chilled towel and cold drink.
Good to know
Iboih is 30–40 min from the pier — arrange private transport in advance. Best snorkelling is before noon when light penetration is at its peak. Book directly with Lumba Lumba by email or phone; bring reef-safe sunscreen only, as chemical sunscreen is prohibited in the marine park.
