A privileged private stroll through Porto-Vecchio's ancient Genoese citadel with a local food historian, culminating in a guided tasting of the island's most celebrated products — aged lonzu, fig jam, chestnut liqueur, and Nielluccio wine — at a curated selection of artisan producers.
What to expect
Begin at the Porte Génoise, the citadel's great gate, where your guide narrates the town's 2,500-year history as Corsica's salt-trading capital. Wind through limestone lanes past Baroque chapels to a fourth-generation charcutier, who walks you through the curing of chestnut-fed pigs and offers a tasting of lonzu, coppa, and figatelli. A short walk leads to an artisan épicerie for local Nielluccio and Vermentino wine poured alongside brocciu and fig preserve. The tour ends on the sun-drenched terrace of the citadel's highest belvedere, overlooking the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio.
Good to know
Tours run 09:30–12:30, leaving ample time before most all-aboard calls. The citadel is compact — total walking distance approximately 2 km on cobblestones, with some inclines. Pre-book at least 5 days ahead through the Porto-Vecchio Tourist Office. Inform the guide of any dietary restrictions; Corsican cuisine is heavily cured-meat-forward but alternatives are available.
