Descend 19 immaculately sculpted terraces cascading down Mount Carmel to the gilded Shrine of the Báb — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most breathtaking designed landscapes on the planet.
What to expect
A Bahá'í guide leads you down the central axis of the terraces, explaining the faith's history and the extraordinary horticultural precision of 450,000 sq m of manicured gardens. The golden-domed Shrine glitters against the deep blue of Haifa Bay below. Photography at each terrace landing is sensational. The lower German Colony neighbourhood, with its 19th-century Templar stone houses and excellent café terraces, is a five-minute walk away for a post-tour espresso.
Good to know
The English-language guided middle-terrace tour departs at 12:00 noon daily (pre-registration via the official site is mandatory and opens a few weeks ahead). Modest dress required. The gardens are 2 km from the port — a short taxi or the Haifa cable car ride away. Combine with the German Colony for a half-day.
