Discover 4,000 rescued ethnographic artefacts — ploughs, toddy-tapping tools, fishing nets, ritual objects — that tell the story of Goa before colonialism, in a museum carved from reclaimed laterite. The attached organic farm and village walk complete an extraordinary half-day.
What to expect
Set in Benaulim village, the museum occupies a beautifully restored colonial-era farmhouse. Galleries are arranged by livelihood — agriculture, fishing, religion, textiles — with each artefact labelled in Konkani and English. The adjacent farm cultivates dozens of endangered Goan vegetable varieties; a guide explains traditional Goan agroforestry. The experience culminates with a tasting of fresh coconut water and seasonal tropical fruit under a cashew tree.
