Step inside Kaap Skil, the world's finest museum of beachcombing and maritime salvage, where centuries of North Sea shipwrecks are brought vividly to life. A deeply evocative, curated dive into Texel's astonishing seafaring heritage.
What to expect
Housed in a striking contemporary building in Oudeschild, Kaap Skil tells the story of Texel's relationship with the sea through hundreds of genuine salvaged artefacts — from Dutch East India Company porcelain to 18th-century sailors' tools. The centrepiece is the raised wreck of a VOC cargo vessel discovered in the Wadden mudflats, with its contents intact. A passionate local guide brings the stories of jutters (beachcombers) and sailors to life with personal anecdotes. The museum's storytelling is world-class, rated 4.5 stars by over 250 visitors.
