Cruise beneath the dramatic 'Sanctuary Cliffs' by open boat, then hike the clifftop trail above them — Bornholm's most spectacular coastal scenery, bookended by the acclaimed Bornholms Kunstmuseum perched dramatically over the sea.
What to expect
A small traditional wooden boat departs from the harbour at Gudhjem (just minutes from the tender pier) and rounds the headland to reveal the great honey-coloured granite walls plunging into turquoise water. Your skipper narrates the folklore of the healing springs that gave the cliffs their name. Back on land, a forest trail winds along the cliff edge past gnarled oaks to Bornholms Kunstmuseum — a striking modernist building cantilevered over the cliff — where Danish and Nordic art hangs with the Baltic as its backdrop. A glass of Bornholm craft beer on the museum terrace is the perfect finale.
Good to know
The boat departs from Gudhjem harbour — a short walk from the tender dock. Boats run regularly late May to late September; no advance booking required but arrive early in peak summer. The cliff walk takes 45–60 minutes one way; wear flat shoes. Museum entry DKK 120 (~EUR 16) extra.
