Walk the dramatic clifftops of St Abb's Head National Nature Reserve with an expert naturalist guide, coming face-to-face with tens of thousands of nesting puffins, guillemots and razorbills — one of Scotland's greatest wildlife spectacles.
What to expect
The circular clifftop trail unfolds through wildflower meadows before reaching soaring 100-metre basalt stacks alive with over 50,000 seabirds. Your NTS ranger identifies species, explains the reserve's unique geology and points out harbour seals basking on the rocks below. The lighthouse perch at the headland delivers panoramic views stretching to the Farne Islands on a clear day. The pace is leisurely and interpretive — never rushed.
Good to know
The reserve is a 10-minute walk from St Abbs Harbour — no transport needed. Pre-register with the NTS visitor centre on arrival; seasonal ranger walks run May–August. Allow 2.5–3 hours. Check all-aboard time and leave at least 45 minutes buffer.
