Hike to the Byzantine-era Fortress of Tureta perched on Kornat Island's ridge for panoramic views over the entire archipelago — 89 islands shimmering below you. A rare, history-rich perspective that no boat ride alone can give.
What to expect
Your guide brings you ashore on Kornat Island — the largest and most storied of the archipelago — and leads you along a well-marked limestone path to the Fortress of Tureta, a remarkably intact Byzantine watchtower with roots in the 6th century AD. The hike is moderate (approx. 45 minutes each way), rewarded at the top by a 360-degree panorama stretching from the Dalmatian coast to the open Adriatic. Your guide weaves together centuries of Illyrian, Roman, and Byzantine history as you explore the ruins. After descending, a swim at the pristine beach below and a grilled fish lunch at the only konoba on the island complete the perfect Kornati day.
Good to know
Wear sturdy shoes — the limestone karst path is uneven. Sun protection is essential; the ridge is fully exposed. Best combined with a private boat transfer from Murter or Biograd. Confirm all-aboard time: allow 7–8 hours for the full experience.
