Sea Lion Island Fly-In: Ultimate Sub-Antarctic Wildlife Immersion

Fly by light aircraft to Sea Lion Island — the Falklands' southernmost inhabited island and its supreme wildlife destination — for face-to-face encounters with elephant seals, sea lions, five penguin species, and soaring albatross. Utterly unrepeatable.

What to expect

The 35-minute Islander aircraft flight over the archipelago is itself spectacular — a mosaic of turquoise inlets and white sand. On landing, the island's 8km² are entirely given over to wildlife: bull southern elephant seals laze in wallows by the airstrip, Magellanic and rockhopper penguins emerge from tussock grass, and striated caracaras inspect your bootlaces with comical boldness. The Sea Lion Lodge team provides expert ecological briefings. Southern right whales are sighted offshore in season (Oct–Nov).

Book it with
FIGAS – Falkland Islands Government Air Service (official)
Approx. FKP 180–220 return per person (approx. USD 230–280); Sea Lion Lodge day access approx. USD 30–50 additional

Good to know

FIGAS flights are weather-dependent and must be booked well in advance through Stanley Travel or FIGAS directly — seats are extremely limited on cruise call days. Confirm all-aboard time carefully; allow a contingency buffer for weather delays. This excursion suits the most dedicated wildlife travellers; it is a full day commitment.
