Set foot on the Antarctic continent itself — not just a sub-Antarctic island — and trek up a snow slope above Neko Harbour for a panoramic view of glaciers calving into the sea. One of fewer than 50,000 people per year to stand on this ice.
What to expect
A Zodiac delivers you onto Antarctic soil — a genuine continent landing, not a floating ice shelf. Your guide leads a 45-minute ascent on snowshoes to a ridgeline with 360° views of calving glaciers and penguin highways below. The descent brings you through a Gentoo colony numbered in the thousands. Total shore time is approximately 3 hours.
Good to know
Dress in full expedition gear with gaiters; snowshoes are provided. The climb is moderate — equivalent to a gentle hill walk — but high-altitude fitness is not required. Confirm availability the evening before; landings can be cancelled if sea ice closes the bay.
