Set foot on the Antarctic continent itself — one of the rarest privileges on Earth. Walk across ancient ice, stand among penguin colonies, and absorb a silence so profound it feels sacred.
What to expect
You step from the Zodiac onto a black-pebble Antarctic beach flanked by thousands of nesting Adélie or Chinstrap penguins, entirely unafraid of human visitors. Your expedition guide walks slowly, narrating penguin ecology and glacial geology while you linger as long as conditions allow. The scale of the surrounding ice walls and the crystal-clear silence redefines any sense of wilderness you thought you knew. Photographs here will define the trip for the rest of your life.
Good to know
All landing sites are selected on the morning of the excursion based on weather, ice, and wildlife disturbance considerations. Sturdy waterproof boots (provided aboard) are essential. The IAATO biosecurity vacuum and boot-wash protocol takes about 5 minutes each way — build that into your timing. Allow 2–3 hours for the full landing experience.
