Plunge into the sub-zero Southern Ocean from the ship's marina platform — a rite of passage for every polar explorer and the most talked-about five seconds in Antarctic travel.
What to expect
The expedition team selects a calm, sheltered anchorage and lowers the marina platform to water level. One by one, guests — wrapped in nothing but swimwear and sheer nerve — leap into water hovering near 0°C as the crowd roars from the decks above. Safety divers are in the water throughout and the plunge lasts mere seconds before you are hauled back aboard, gasping and grinning. Hot towels, warm drinks, and an official Polar Plunge certificate await you on the other side.
Good to know
Entirely voluntary — there is no pressure whatsoever to participate. Strictly weather and sea-state dependent; the event is organised by the expedition team and announced onboard with 24 hours' notice when conditions are right. Wear a swimsuit under your robe for fastest entry. Consult your physician before participating if you have any cardiovascular concerns.
