Trek through West Timor's eucalyptus-and-palm hinterland to a multi-tiered waterfall cascading into a natural pool of extraordinary clarity. One of the island's most photogenic landscapes — and barely known beyond Kupang itself.
What to expect
A 30-minute drive from Kupang gives way to a lush gorge where Oenesu Waterfall steps down in a series of green-fringed tiers, each feeding a cool natural pool ideal for swimming. The walk in is manageable but rewarding — dry forest fragrant with eucalyptus opens to the sound of cascading water before the falls reveal themselves. Swim in the deepest pool beneath the main cascade, let the natural jets pound your shoulders, or simply sit on the rocks and absorb the silence. The contrast with Kupang's warm coastal air is stunning and completely revitalising before returning to the ship.
Good to know
Wear water shoes or sturdy sandals — rocks can be slippery. A dry bag for valuables is essential. Best combined with Crystal Cave for a full-day private itinerary. Avoid after heavy rain when the trail can be muddy and water murky.
