Hoist sail on the legendary Kiel Fjord — home to Olympic regattas since 1936 — aboard a privately chartered yacht with a skipper, for the most elegant and exhilarating way to experience the Baltic.
What to expect
Your skipper welcomes you aboard a well-appointed yacht at Kiel's historic Düsternbrook marina, just minutes from the Holtenau lock entry. You set sail south down the 17 km Kiel Fjord, taking in the elegant tree-lined shores, historic Kiellinie promenade, and the working naval base. On a fine day, the fjord sparkles a vivid Baltic blue and passing tall ships and ferries add drama. The skipper handles all navigation — you simply relax in the cockpit with cold drinks, or take the helm if the spirit moves you.
Good to know
Depart from Düsternbrook marina, accessible by taxi (10 min) from Holtenau. Book at least 3–4 weeks in advance, especially during Kiel Week (late June) when the fjord is packed with racing yachts. Allow 3–4 hours for the half-day charter plus transfer time; confirm your all-aboard before booking.
