Wake at 4am to trek through Gam Island's ancient rainforest and witness the Wilson's Bird of Paradise in full courtship display — one of nature's most extraordinary spectacles. A bucket-list wildlife moment found nowhere else on Earth.
What to expect
You'll gather in near-darkness at the village jetty before 4am, trekking quietly uphill through dense jungle as the forest awakens around you. As first light filters through the canopy, the iridescent Wilson's Bird of Paradise performs its mesmerising courtship dance on its cleared display court. The silence, the colour, and the sheer remoteness make this one of the most emotionally powerful wildlife encounters on the planet. Your village guide will point out other endemic species — Standardwing Birds of Paradise, hornbills, and kingfishers — on the return descent.
