Drift silently alongside oceanic manta rays — wingspans up to 5 metres — at Manta Sandy, one of Raja Ampat's legendary manta cleaning stations. This is a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife swim with absolute giants of the sea.
What to expect
A rigid inflatable boat carries your private group across open water to Manta Sandy, where you slip quietly into the blue and wait — rarely more than minutes — before the first manta appears from the deep. Rays circle the cleaning station repeatedly, oblivious to snorkellers who hover respectfully above, offering unobstructed, extended views of their pale undersides and hypnotic movement. En route, you'll stop at the stilted village of Arborek to witness traditional Papuan weaving and enjoy fresh coconuts with the community. A surreal, humbling morning.
Good to know
Manta sightings are highly consistent at this site year-round but peak October–April. No touching or chasing mantas; your guide enforces this strictly. Book 3–5 days ahead for private charter. Bring an underwater camera — the encounters here are extraordinary. Plan for a 4–5 hour excursion and confirm all-aboard clearance.
