Charter a private speedboat to Manta Sandy, Raja Ampat's famed manta ray cleaning station, and snorkel alongside oceanic and reef manta rays as they circle in mesmerising formation above the sandy bottom — a life-defining wildlife encounter.
What to expect
Departing Mansuar by speedboat (approximately 60–90 minutes), you approach the shallow seamount known as Manta Sandy, where resident reef mantas and the occasional oceanic manta glide up to the cleaning station. Your guide briefs you on interaction etiquette — no touching, passive floating — allowing the rays to approach within arm's reach. Multiple mantas typically circle simultaneously, creating one of the most intimate large-wildlife encounters available anywhere. Dolphins are frequently sighted on the transit.
Good to know
Manta sightings are near-daily November through April, with peak season October–April. Confirm sea conditions before departure — a short chop can make the 90-minute transit uncomfortable. An early-morning departure is essential to return comfortably before your ship's all-aboard time; discuss timing explicitly with your operator the day prior.
