Land at the stilt-village of Arborek, one of Raja Ampat's most photogenic traditional settlements, meet resident weavers creating the region's iconic pandanus handicrafts, then snorkel the extraordinary house reef that begins literally at the village dock.
What to expect
The 30-minute speedboat crossing from Mansuar delivers you to Arborek at its most peaceful. Your guide introduces you to the village chief and to the women's cooperative whose woven bags and mats are the finest traditional craft in the archipelago. After browsing and purchasing directly from the artisans, you enter the water from the village jetty and discover a reef immediately bustling with turtles, reef sharks, and schooling fusiliers. The visit concludes with fresh papaya and coffee in a family's open-sided home.
Good to know
Dress modestly for the village section — shoulders and knees covered until you enter the water. The weaving cooperative only sells on-site, so this is the most authentic and fairly-priced place to buy Raja Ampat crafts. Arborek is approximately 30 minutes by boat from Mansuar; combine with a stop at Yenbuba reef on the return for a full half-day.
