Train one-on-one with an expert local freediving instructor in the calm, warm waters around Mansuar, mastering breathwork and equalisation before descending through walls of anthias and black-tip sharks in water of near-mythical clarity.
What to expect
Your session begins with 20 minutes of breathwork and technique coaching on the surface, followed by shallow practice dives in a sheltered bay. As confidence builds, the instructor guides you to a coral wall where the reef drops away beneath you and the silence of breath-hold diving amplifies every sensory detail — the crackle of shrimp, the swoop of a napoleon wrasse, the shadow of a passing blacktip. Two sessions are standard; most participants reach 8–12 metres by the end of session two. All equipment including mask, fins, and wetsuit is provided.
Good to know
No prior freediving experience required; basic swimming ability essential. The Facebook group 'Stay Raja Ampat' is the community resource for vetting local instructors — Soul Scuba's jetty on Kri is consistently praised. Kri is a short boat hop from Mansuar. Book at least 48 hours ahead and confirm medical fitness requirements with the operator.
