Descend to the hauntingly intact Japanese WWII freighter Toa Maru — trucks, motorbikes, sake bottles and all — resting at 45 m near Gizo. One of the Indo-Pacific's top-rated wreck dives.
What to expect
You kit up at Dive Gizo's purpose-built jetty and motor out to the site in a covered dive tender. The Toa Maru sits upright and largely intact, her holds still packed with wartime cargo — motorbikes, trucks, medical supplies and ceramic sake bottles — all draped in soft corals and patrolled by lionfish and batfish. Your divemaster frames the history with firsthand knowledge of the wreck's every compartment. A safety stop over the shallower stern is a bonus reef dive in itself. A surface interval snack is provided on the boat between dives.
