Taste Ecuador's legendary fine-aroma cacao at source on a small-group tour combining Guayaquil's vibrant Malecón 2000 waterfront and a working cacao farm. Ecuador grows some of the world's finest chocolate — trace it from pod to bar.
What to expect
Your morning begins on the iconic Malecón 2000, a sweeping riverside promenade where Guayaquil's colonial architecture, modern art installations, and the famous iguana-filled Parque Seminario come together in a single stroll. A local guide narrates the city's transformation from colonial port to Ecuador's commercial hub. After lunch, you transfer to a family-owned cacao finca where the farmer walks you through the entire chocolate journey: splitting pods, pressing nibs, roasting beans over wood fire, and finally tasting single-origin chocolate in its rawest, most extraordinary form.
Good to know
This is a port-based excursion — ideal when the ship does not proceed to Quito. The Malecón is approximately 15 minutes from the cruise terminal by taxi (approx. USD 5). Cacao farms are typically 45-60 min outside the city; confirm pick-up from port with your operator. Light cotton clothing recommended — Guayaquil is coastal and humid.
