Plunge into some of the Indian Ocean's most pristine and unexplored dive sites — dramatic vertical drop-offs, vibrant coral gardens, and encounters with whale sharks, manta rays, and hammerheads. Christmas Island's underwater world is genuinely world-class and refreshingly uncrowded.
What to expect
Board a purpose-equipped dive boat from Flying Fish Cove and head to sites like The Canyons, Thundercliff Cave, or Perpendicular Wall — sheer faces draped in gorgonians plunging hundreds of metres into cobalt blue. Reef sharks patrol lazily, schools of jacks spiral in silver columns, and the coral is pristine — untouched by the bleaching pressure seen elsewhere. Between dives, surface to the silence of a deserted tropical ocean with no other vessels in sight. Your guide brief is thorough and personalised to your certification level.
Good to know
Minimum Open Water certification required; Advanced recommended for the deeper wall dives. Flying Fish Cove is the tender landing point — the dive centre is a short walk from shore. Pre-book well ahead; equipment rental is available but bringing your own computer and wetsuit is advisable. The dry season (May–October) offers peak visibility; the wet season brings whale shark aggregations (November–April).
