Warnemünde's wide white-sand beach, the iconic red-and-white 1898 lighthouse, and the languid Alter Strom canal — all steps from the pier. A blissfully luxurious morning of sea air, Strandkorb basket chairs, and freshly caught Baltic fish.
What to expect
Step off the gangway and within minutes you are on one of Germany's most celebrated seaside promenades. The Alter Strom canal is lined with bright fishing boats and the terraces of excellent fish restaurants — order a Matjesbrötchen (pickled herring roll) and watch the world sail by. The 1898 lighthouse rewards the short climb with sweeping views over the Baltic and the cruise ships at anchor. The beach itself stretches for kilometres, fringed by the iconic coloured Strandkorb wicker chairs that are synonymous with German Baltic culture. The Teepott, a dramatic 1968 Expressionist pavilion, makes for a striking coffee stop.
Good to know
Warnemünde village is a 5–10 minute walk from the main cruise berth — no transport needed. The lighthouse is open daily in season (May–October), typically 10 am–5 pm. For a premium lunch, Café Warnemünde and the fish restaurants on Alter Strom are highly regarded locals' choices. Bring EUR cash for the Strandkorb rental and lighthouse entry.
