Glide across the hypersaline waters of North America's largest saltwater lake on a private charter as the sun melts into the Wasatch Range in a blaze of gold and crimson. The extraordinary buoyancy of the brine and the surreal, flat horizon make this one of America's most otherworldly on-water experiences.
What to expect
Board at the Antelope Island State Park marina, where the skipper welcomes you aboard a well-appointed keelboat. As you cast off, the silence of the lake is immediately striking — no powerboats, just wind and water. The skipper narrates the lake's geological history as the distant salt flats shimmer. At golden hour, the water transforms into a mirror of apricot and violet, and the silhouette of Antelope Island — home to free-roaming bison — rises to the south. You may dip your hand in the brine and feel the extraordinary density of the water before sailing back under a canopy of desert stars.
Good to know
Antelope Island State Park is approximately 45–50 minutes by private car from Salt Lake City. Entry fee to the park is USD 15 per vehicle (in addition to charter cost). Sunset charters are most popular — book 2–3 weeks ahead in summer. Bring a light layer; lake breezes cool quickly after sundown.
