Stand at the crater rim of an active volcano, then descend to Saint-Pierre — the 'Pompeii of the Caribbean' — obliterated in 1902. Haunting ruins, a sunken fleet, and the island's most dramatic landscape in one unforgettable arc.
What to expect
The journey north winds through lush rainforest before the landscape turns volcanic and raw as you approach Montagne Pelée. At Saint-Pierre you walk among the skeletal ruins of the theatre, jail, and distillery — remnants frozen in ash. The guide weaves in the story of the sole survivor, Louis-Auguste Cyparis, imprisoned in a thick-walled cell. The return passes the black-sand beach at Le Carbet for a final, dramatic contrast.
